Orthodontic Assistant Permit

We are a California Dental Board-approved provider for the Orthodontic Assistant Permit. Students will learn to describe the types of malocclusion, discuss corrective orthodontics, describe the types of treatments involved and become familiar with diagnostic records.

 This program will teach students to:

• Place separators
• Fit orthodontic bands
• Remove excess cement
• Ultrasonic scaling permit
• Prepare teeth for bonding
• Place arch wires and ligature ties
• Deliver patient care instructions

Prerequisites: 

1. Possess an active Registered Dental Assistant license or six months work experience as a dental assistant at an orthodontic dental practice
2. Complete a Basic Life Support course supported by the American Red Cross 
3. Obtain a certification of completion in Infection Control and Dental Practice Act within 1 year of starting employment
